DO NOT REVEAL THE IDENTITY OF THE CHILD OFFENDER: HIGH COURT

Section 21 of Juvenile Justice Act 2000 prohibits publication of personal details of children in conflict with law. It applies to publishing their names, photos, interviews etc. However, police officials, media and civil & correctional authorities violated this provision whenever or wherever a child is involved in the commission of an offence. The Executive Director of Jananeethi, Adv. George Pulikuthiyil who also holds the office of Child Welfare Committee, Thrissur through a letter brought this matter to the notice of the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court. A Division Bench of the High Court ‘suo motto’ admitted his letter as a petition that was finally disposed on 28-11-2006.
