Jananeethi condoles the sad demise of

K. Balagopal

Jananeethi & Jananeethi Institute condole the unexpected death of eminent human rights activist and lawyer, K.Balagopal (57) on Thursday, the 8th Oct.2009 in Hyderabad of cardiac arrest. A mathematics professor-turned-rights activist, Balagopal fought for the rights of the poor, tribals and labourers. He was opposed to violence, no matter it was by the State or Maoists.

Balagopal was a true hero of all activists in the right sense of the term, and a moral force whose authority emerged from the integrity with which he led his life and the courage with which he stood by his belief. For him  who spent his better part of his life in struggles, and in battles against the impunity of the State, the commitment to an ethical position on violence was deeply ethical choice of bravery. He was a strong motive force in the formation of Jananeethi in 1992 and was happy to associate with Jananeethi sharing word and vision.

He will live in our memories for many years. Good bye dear Balagopal.
