Department of People's Initiatives & Public Interest Advocacy

Jananeethi joins hand with other NGOs in mobilizing people's power against all forms of corruption. It will help the resurgence of the 'community-identity', which is so often absent in consumerist cultures and over-sized cities.

Department of Legal Aid & Counseling

Services are rendered in the form of, discussions, negotiations and counseling providing for alternate dispute resolution and out of court settlement, free legal aid & public interest litigations. On an average 8-10 cases are amicably settled in a month.

Department of Legal Literacy & Publication

'Environment of People' is an ideal to be realized through education and participation. The first step to attain this goal is through awareness camps and participatory programmes organized and conducted in the grass root level for different target groups, with special thrust on rural folk and labor forces. Besides, awarness sessions with special impetus to Human Rights and Environmental Legislations are organized in schools and colleges. Publication of journals, brochures, news-letters, wall-posters, audio-visual programmes etc. are used in promoting legal literacy in the society.

Department of Human Rights Education

Study camps, seminars, street theatre, public meetings etc are regularly and systematically organized at educational institutions, youth clubs and for rural population at various levels on relevant aspects of human rights. Verbal and visual media are effectively used for human rights education.

Department of Health and Environment

Interdependence of sound environmental management and sustainable development is vital with respect to the survival of the universe. Awareness raising programmes for the public, environmental advocacy in courts, extensive campaign in educational institutions on how to reduce wastage, encourage recycling and minimise pollution. As an integral aspect of health, we plan to focus our energies on counseling AIDS patients and disseminating information about AIDS.

Department of Development and Human Rights

The inextricable link between human rights and development has been constantly re-affirmed and today it is no longer possible to envisage national development without taking into account the human rights scenario. Hence, developmental planning and schemes of the government as well as private agencies would be examined/studied & the violation of human rights arising on a sequel would be exposed & people made aware of.

Department for the Empowerment of Women

Exploited and battered, the Indian woman is a silent embodiment of desertion and discrimination on all fronts. Hence, we would focus on conscientizing women to battle against atrocities and harassment perpetrated on them & availability of legal resources, strengthen their inner resources, assert themselves & make conscious choices in their lives. Awareness would be generated on issues relating to women's self-help activities, the social & economic impact of development on women would be assessed and their experiences would be documented.

Department to defend the Constitutional rights of Dalits and Tribals

Marginalized by the present model of development emphasizing privatisation & profit - making, the dalits and tribals have been passive victims of its brutal consequences. Compelled to give up their native lifestyle focusing on community ownership of resources and environment friendly life, they form the last rung of the developmental ladder. We plan to reach out to the marginalised & deprived communities and join in their struggle for preserving their identity and culture and conscientizing them as far as their constitutional rights are concerned.

Department to defend constitutional rights of children

Despite constitutional provisions for compulsory child education and prohibition of child labour, India has the largest number of working children and street children exposed to all forms of exploitation. We plan to organise children who are victims of ill-treatment and torture, create non-formal resources of education and document experiences of children who have been victims of torture, abduction and kidnapping to create public opinion.

Department of Research and Documentation

To bridge the gap between social action and social research, we plan to undertake documentation of field level experiences, analyse data systematically and maintain rich reading, audio and visual material which will provide us with theoretical inputs for our field level action and confer upon the public an insight into social developments. This department would also focus on demystification of law and functioning of legal system by making available information.
